My western saddle right now has a 7 and a half inch gullet, FQHBs obviously: p. Shes kinda fat around her withers right now (super easy keeper) but I'm pretty sure her saddle will still fit her when she loses the weight there . I would like to get an english saddle someday (hopefully soon) just for something different every once in a while. Just to give me an idea, what size gullet do you think she would take? She doesn't have high withers (I could post a pic if you would like). Also, what kind of saddle would be good for me? I will only be doing light riding in it, like once or twice a week. I was thinking all purpose but some people say they ' re uncomfortable.
Thanks:)
You need a saddle fitter to tell you the exact size of your horse and what size tree/gullet it will need.
Wintec's are great. I have a dressage and close contact and HAD an AP. I love them all.
It is always best to ask an expert to size your horse and make sure the saddle is a proper fit.
If you are doing mostly trail riding I find my deep seat dressage is the most comfortable. And it works well for low jumps (up to 3ft)

make sure it has a padded seat if you are in it for more than an hour!
I would get a wintec with the adjustable gullet, i just got the wintec pro dressage and i LOVE it, it's so comfortable and fits my high withered OTTB perfect ... anyway if you get a saddle with an adjustable gullet, you change change the gullet when your horse gets in better shape ... this is my horse with my trainer in her saddle

https://greenrivertack.com/catalog/index ... thats where i got mine, most other places sold the same exact saddle for 950, they sold it for 745 and it included the gullet system, a girth, stirrups and leathers, and a saddle cover
