I have agreed to do a dressage test tomorrow on a mare at my yard, but she suffered from sweet itch over the summer and rubbed her mane right down, my question is what do i do with it? The owners wouldn't hog it off and i have got no idea what else to do with it for the show? Also her tail is all wiery at the dock so i don't know what to do with that either? Her mane is her mane is about 10cms long but shivers every time i touch it, im guessing she is still sensitive around the area. Extensions aren't an option as the show is tomorrow so im guessing i shall go in looking scruffy:/xx

There may not be much you can do. She will be sensitive along her mane. If it's long enough you can plait it if she'll let you, otherwise just brush through and make sure it's neat. Same for the tail, if the hair down the back on either side is long enough then plait over the front hair. If there's not enough hair to do this then again just brush through and try to keep neat. You can use some water to smooth it down . On my horses I would use hair spray or gel but sweet itch horses can be prone to allergy's so don't use anything without asking the owner and testing it on a small patch and leaving for a while.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com You won't be marked down for not being plaited especially if there isn't enough hair to plait.
First go through the hair with your things getting out any mattes and knots etc, then dip a dandy/water brush in a bit of water (not much) and pat down the mane with the brush lightly, this should get the sticky up bits nice, rub a little conditioner in your hand/spray some conditioning spray on your hand and rub it into the mane, comb it through with your fingers and rub a bit of gel to it and leave to dry
if your gong to plaither up do as you would with any horse, put a little plaiting spray/hairspray in the finished plaits and rub gel in your hands and brush any wispy bits towards the plait so its all neat and nothings hanging down
Another option before you do all of the above if comb the mane over to the wrong side and then plait it, then you can see the fluffy bits
With the tail i'd just do the first step:)
