I have been looking for a part time job as I am in high school and need the money to put toward things for my mare (ex: medications; my parents already help pay for board and everything so they won't pay for much else, fine with me as I need to take responsibility too). My barn's next door neighbour is looking for someone to be a stablehand basically. She has 3 horses there and they need to have stalls mucked, cleaned barn, and be turned in/out. I could also easily get to this job as I bike to my barn almost everyday.
The only thing is that winter is approaching and I won't be out everyday anymore because of the snow and weather and whenever my parents can drive me out (it's only 3 min drive, not bad at all, but I do have siblings that have their own sports and things to be driven to). The lady said she could just make it certain days or something, like not everyday and we could work something out (the reason she's looking for a stablehand is because life is hectic with work and coming home later).
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com If it pays well, I'm guessing minimum wage or who knows since she is pretty good friends with my barn owner, should I consider it? Or should I just get a normal job in town (which would be just like right down the street , not 15 min bike ride/4 min car drive).?
I would definitely consider it if you're up for it.
A 3 minute car drive you could pretty much walk if needed, and if you enjoy working with horses it's great to have a part time job doing that.
A lot of part time jobs in commercial places will treat their part timers like rubbish, because they know they will put up with a lot - hence If there was an offer open to work in an area you enjoy I would definitely take it up so long as the money's ok and she's not expecting you to work for peanuts.
i personally think you should take this job, i mean if it's too difficult for your parents to take you out then go with a different one, but talk to your parents first about it and im sure they'll say itll be fine. But since you're into horses i think that this job would be more fun than other jobs in town.
Keep in mind since it's a farm job, and a friend-of-a-friend kind of situation, you probably won't be filling out the paperwork to make it a "legal" job, and also keep in mind that you probably won't be making minimum wage. Farmhand jobs on small properties like that pay very little.
I would take the job. You will learn a bunch, be able to do something you enjoy, and she will probably pay you under the table, meaning you wont have taxes taken out of your check, so you will make more. You will enjoy it a whole lot more than flipping burgers!
Well, if you can, I would think you should get this job. Ask your neighbour how many days she was thinking you would come and work there, and talk to your parents about what days siblings have to be driven, and what days they won't be able to make. After doing this, tell your neighbour barn the days you were thinking and work out a schedule for the winter. Once summer comes around, just bike there:) It will be good exercise and you won't bother your parents. This job would have you doing something that you love and getting you some fresh air.

If your parents can't drive you, maybe there is another way to get there? A friend could take your or you could use a bus or something. But if it is really not possible, use the town job. It will be closer and you can go very easily.
I hope this helps, and good luck!
