Those look like a very good pair of spurs to use especially if you as a rider have not used spurs very often before. Generally something like that will work unless you have a REALLY dull horse. I have found that the young horses I have started learn pretty quickly. After a week I no longer have to use a spur very often but I still always wear them just in case. Spurs are a wonderful training tool.
I always ride with spurs and then I never wish that I had put them on when a horse needs correcting.

I have 3 pair one with real short shanks that I always use when I ride a colt and a pair with longer shanks for something that has been used with spurs. And a silver pair for showing that match my show bit.

I would think if you havent ridden with spurs you should get a pair with shorter shanks and just be prepared to spark them harder if you need to.

You can really get into a storm if your horse does jump or buck with you and you accidentaly jab him if you did not mean to.
I wou \ ld suggest spurs without the stars, then wrap them in tape so you dont cut your horse by accident. i use that all the time, and it works and never hurts the horse.
ohhhh boy ....

Why dont you try learning to ride and teaching her to respond to a very light leg aid-that way you wont need to spur her to get her to go. Dont you want a happy responsive horse?
