Me and my friend were out with Leo my horse today. And we were free jumping him over some jumps. He has such a great form jumping the jumps, and he is amazing at jumping.
I can get him to jump 1m, and really, really wide. It was at least a meter than I had him jump wide. So we thought he would be great, and I mean great for being a hunter horse.
But I am scared of jumping. After a jumping accident I have lost most of my confidence in jumping. Leo isn't the easiest horse to jump sometimes, but lately he has been amazing.
So if anyone has any way of re-gaining confidence in jumping, it would be awesome. Plus I have had an accident with a horse taking off. And sometimes when I ask Leo to trot, he sometimes tries to canter, and sort of take off a little. And its really hard to keep myself calm. So any tips on how to keep calm when Leo pulls and does his mini take off would be amazing.
I know we probably don't make the best of a team. But when we are going good, we are going great, and I love him a lot. So no saying sell him and get an older, more experienced horse. Since we are learning together, and its pretty fun.:)
hunting isnt actully all about jumping i suggest going out a few times with the non-jumping group to try it out

the best thing with cofidence is NOT to be negative you have to be possitive saying i can do this i can do this,
beaucse i have gotten myself out of some reall crazy sitution beliveing in myself these days [not saying its a bad thing] we have to much trust in our horse which can actully cause us trouble if something happens beacuse we dont exspect it
just do alot of ground work, and lessons on him:) the more you work on your problems the better it will get
- I've been hunting before, its not actully like movies and all the things you see, you do gallop and you do go over fences but these days there arnt as many jumps as the land is not avliable anymore
see what i mean by a non-jumping group is you wont go over the obsticals just go around there's always a chocie to go over them if you feel confident but for the first two ride or so it might actully be a huge deal for your horse its bad enough he's going to be galloping all over the place in a heard enviorment all he's going to want to do is get infront of the pack its fun but its also very daunting on your nerves
start off small again. go back to basic and work your way up. for the taking off stick him on the lunge and get him listening to your voice more to keep him clam
I'd incorporate some dressage work that especially focus on transitions for you two, and some relaxed walk/trot trail rides. Just relax, maybe have someone lunge you without reins over low jumps (under 2.5 feet) to help you develop a more secure seat that you can draw confidence from. Just because your horse is really good at it, does not mean you have to 'hurry' to match him. He can display his talents later, and some dressage work will help your control and his balance too :-) Hope this help you out, and all the best!
