Anky Van Gunsven rollkur controversy?
can anyone tell me a little bit more about this?
i'm not big on dressage and i just heard about it from a friend...
(they said they were against it)
Rolkur doesn't even look elegant or classy, it just looks downright painful.
Oh yes, what a controversy it is. I also dislike it, for obvious reasons. Its quite brutal and I have no respect for someone who uses brutality on an animal that is already giving us their own back to ride on. I must say though that the reason why rollkur was brought to attention was due to Anky's fame in the dressage ring. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I never had respect for Anky, a couple of my friends got together and attended a clinic with her and said that she was a royal b****. My friends packed their bags and left the next morning after the first day. Now she has her grimy hands on the reining world? God bless those poor horses souls.
Anky does it. She actually does it publicly and talks about how she thinks it is okay. She has done demos on HOW to get it done "correctly".
Honestly look up Rolkur online or on youtube and you will quickly learn what it is. There is no "okay" way to do it. She may not force her horse into the position, she might "work" them slowly into this position, but when you are working your horse like this for long periods of time, you are doing damage. A large amount of it to. She talks about how it helps "develop" and stretch the horse. I can get my horse to do it with a treat, on ground, without a rider. I would not make him move, or hold his head like this for longer than a second. It's one thing to loosen up, but you are getting no where by doing this, and she is slowly losing followers because more people are becoming educated.
