i put my bay mare to a light dapple grey colt that i owned at the time im just wondering if any one has a ruff idea what my mare could throw color wise thanks
My guess is you are going to get some sort of a roan/grey that will lighten with age. Probably a bay roan. I'm sure it would be beautiful.
Just beware because there is alot of s ** t on here about 'backyard breeding' that your probably going to get hit with.
I'm no gene expert, but I performed a punnet square, and I found that you have anywhere from a 25% chance to a 75% chance of the foal being a bay color. Of course, those are generalized and optimum, so you could still have a strong 25% to 50% chance of the foal being dapple grey. Anyways, hope this helps and God bless.
I'm going to assume that neither horse has had their DNA tested to see what they are carrying. The Colt could be homozygous or heterozygous for grey, which means the foal either has a 50% chance of being grey or 100% chance. If the foal is not grey, there is no way of know what color it will be. We don't have any information on what the grey colts base color under the grey is, or if the mare is homo or hetero for Agouti. We also don't know if the mare is EE or Ee.

Edit:
Little Miss Cavaliar-I'd like to know how you came up with those percentages, since they're was no DNA testing available? How do you know the grey colt does not carry cream, or champagne, under the grey?
It really depends on the bloodlines. Some colors are dominant, while others have to be common to show up. If you know the history of either parent it might give you an idea.
It's likely that it will be born bay, and eventually turn grey. I've seen a grey mare have a bay foal whose sire was black, and that foal is starting to turn grey.
WHY did you bred your mare to a colt ???????
Poor Guy, anyways itll most likely be gray, maybe even a solid color (bay, black, sorrel) at first and turn grey ...
35.16% - Gray (Bay)
35.16% - Bay
11.72% - Gray (Black)
11.72% - Black
3.13% - Gray (Chestnut)
3.13% - Chestnut
