Teaching my mom about horses?
I'm 13 now, and there's a big chance of me getting a horse when I'm 16. I've been riding since 1st grade and my mom has been to almost all of my lessons. She just watches the horse move and me riding but not really paying attention to the instructions, so she doesn't know the concept of horseback riding. Since I will most likely be getting a horse in 3 years I would like her to know at least the basics of horseback riding and horse care even though it will be my horse. She knows a little bit of this and that and my instructor is actually having my mom help me put the bridle on the horse I ride so she can learn, but she needs to know more than that. How can I help her learn the basics of horseback riding and horse care? She is very busy and not always up to doing things that she doesn't need to do at the moment, so what is a particularly fast and easy way to learn these things? Please give as many ways as possible, and thank you for any responses! :)

If I were your mom and you kept saying you want a horse and will take care of it, but you want ME to know how to care for it, I would seriously wonder just who is going to take care of that horse. If it will be your horse, there's no reason your mom needs to know how to care for it. If you don't know how to take care of it by the time you are 16, then you need to wait until you DO know how to care for it. Or be sure that you are keeping it at a good boarding facility with a good trainer who can help you when there is a problem.

The best way for your mom to learn is to sign your mom up for lessons with a trainer who will teach her how to ride and care for a horse - if she really wants to learn how to ride/care for a horse.

Most of the young kids at barns where I've ridden do everything themselves. Their parents drop them off at the barn and the kids tack up their horse, ride in the lesson, or hold their horse for the vet/farrier or groom/bathe the horse. The parents often come to the shows and occasionally watch the lessons, but this is time for the girls to bond with their horses one-on-one. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Not sure why you are so concerned that your mom know how to care for YOUR horse.
Christmas is coming soon and it would be the perfect time to get her a horse education gift. There are many different books you could buy, but I think a hands on approach would be best. Why don't you get her a few riding lessons? By experiemcing what you do, she will learn the basics of safety, riding and care.
Well you could buy her books on horses and that could help her learn about them. Chapters has a LOT of great horse books that taught me helpful things that I didn't know. the books I bought from there were : How to think like a Horse, Horses for Dummies, Horses Horses Horses!, Tips on training horses, How to break bad habits in horses and ponies ........
Horses for Dummies book helped me learn what the symptoms are for horse's tummy aches, choking, lame, etc. It told you how to look for that perfect horse and who to bring with you when you are looking to buy a horse(s). This book even tells you what kind of bits there are and bridles, blankets, saddles, etc. Tells you how to groom a horse, saddle in English and Western, how to put on a halter & bridle, etc....

Horses Horses Horses book tells you how to look after a horse and how to care for it properly. It tells you how to clean out their feet, how to saddle up a horse in ANY saddle, how to put on a halter the right way, how to mount on a horse, how to dismount on a horse, how to train a horse to stop having bad habits in the stable, how to blanket a horse, how to clip a horse, etc..... Great book and tells you how to care for your horse well and how much you should feed your horse everyday.
How to break bad habits in horses & ponies book tells you how to make horses/ponies stop biting, stop pawing the ground, stop bucking, stop rearing, stop bolting, etc. It tells you what you should do to horses that have bad habits.

Another thing you could do is, is that you could bring your mom to the lessons place where you take your lessons and you teach her how to saddle up the horse your riding, how to put on the bridle (I know you are already working on this), how to lead a horse the proper way, how to groom a horse, etc...
