Do horse people love all horses or only their TYPE of horse?
Do you ever say things like;
I hate Arabians, thoroughbreds, cobs, gaited horses, ponies or any other breed
I hate jumpers, western pleasure, barrels, saddle seat, dressage, eventing or any other discipline?
________ is a CRUEL discipline
If so Why?
Best answer goes to the most thumbs,
answer: Nope I love all types of horses irrespective of their breed, colour, temperment etc. There are a few that I wouldnt rush over to rub in the yard granted, but I dont dislike any horse - nor any animal at that. like us they all have their own traits - good and bad, but I think this is what makes them unique and even more loveable!
I dont hate any discipline either, although my least favourite right now is cross country due to the death of several horses in recent years over fixed fences. I recently witnessed a most horrific fall of a horse and rider, when the horse failed to meet a tree log that was MASSIVE correctly, he fell over it - breaking his neck - it was awful. I feel that in such an advanced day and age like the one we are living in - these type of accidents are completely unnecessary and we can get the same thrill out of jumping collapasable fences as fixed ones - just make it kinder and safer for the horses - and indeed riders. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I wont get best answer due to a little army of thumbs downers that are following me around from question to question but I hope my answer answered your question.

If you really LOVE horses, you don't hate any type of horse. You can dislike them, or not enjoy riding them, but you can't really *hate* them. It's almost racist for horses! Hah, or would you call it "breedist?"
I personlly love hunter-type horses for english disciplines, and stock-type horses for western disciplines. Cobs and ponies are just adorable in the way they're built, and when taken care of properly, Arabs can be gorgeous. I think gaited horses are pretty, but I don't particularly enjoy riding them. And I don't always love riding Arabs. Poorly built Arabs aren't all that nice to look at either, but I have nothing against any breed.
I dislike the sport of horse racing, and I think it is cruel, for obvious reasons. Other than that, I like all disciplines.
I don't think it is possible to 'hate' any type of horse. Yes, there are a few breeds that I favor over others and there are a few breeds and disciplines that I'm not really a fan of. My fav is definitely quarter horses. They are reliable, versitile, willing, and adorable. I think that my dislike of some breeds and disciplines has been caused more by my interactions with the people in those areas than the actual horse/discipline. But of course, to each his own.
A true horse person respects and love all horses. While most have a discipline that they prefer, it doesn't minimize the respect and love they have for all horses.

There are some horse people who love only a specific breed or discipline. I would put them in the category of a fair-weather friend. If they only look at a specific breed or discipline and poo poo all others, can you really count on them for a solid opinion or the respect that is due?
BTW: We have 4 horses that cross the spectrum. Western, English, Eventer and trail. The breeding is as different but we love them all for themselves, not what they can do :)
There are no cruel disciplines--there is cruelty IN disciplines.
Western pleasure people drug their horses, block their tails, tie their heads to the wall/ceiling to get that peanut-roller-headset, crank n' yank (jerk on their faces with huge shank bits and spur the crap out of them at the same time), break/show their horses way too early. Not ALL WP people do this, but a good number of them do.
TWH people chemically sore their horses, ginger their tails, attach these awful giant block things to their feet, ride too far back on the horse's back (over their kidneys, talk about OUCH), just awful stuff. Not ALL TWH people do this, but a good number of them do.

Dressage people rollkur their horses (Google it if you don't know what rollkur is). Not ALL dressage people do this, but a good number of them do (look at Anky).
Show jumper people put thumb tacks in their horses' splint boots so that they don't rub rails (I've only heard of this a few times, although I'm sure it's happening more than we realize).
Track people start their horses way too early, breed for speed and not durability, and are notorious for putting any horse that doesn't win on the one-way truck to Mexico.
