Just plain aweful. Need help?
I have been watching this barn for a while and my friends and I have been reporting it to the ASPCA for a while. It is in less then half an acre . They have 1 Jersey cows, 3 Texas horns horn, and some mix baby. 1 Thoroughbred, a Halflinger, 2 Quarter Horses, 1 baby mule of the Thoroughbred, a llama, and 3 mini donkeys. There is no barn and or shelter from the rain. Their hay is stacked up in this corner that is filled with mud and it is just bad bad hay. They lay on it and such and hardly eat it because the field is just filled with mud and hardly no grass. They cows keep the horses away from the hay most of the time so they hardly get anything. They horses are emaciated and all the animals are so unhealthy. I got a call from my friend while at school and the Thoroughbred was dead in the field. She is young . The sad truth is this isn't the only dead animal in that field and the ASPCA still hasn't done anything. I have been to this farm and field before because they sell hay. I didn't even know they had animals there till I went to go see if they had good hay and I saw their animals and I called them. They went there but nothing happened. I've been trying to get them for a couple months. Why is there no progress? Have any of you ever experienced anything like this before?

Unfortunately this happens quite frequently due to the number of abuse and negligence cases and the under staffing of the ASPCA. What I would do is take it to the media, whether it is a local paper or news, something of that sort to get someone to realize what is going on. If the ASPCA were to come out it would get printed or put on TV so try that. I know how hard it is to get in touch with any animal shelters as well, but keep trying. You are doing the right thing and in the end good will always prevail. Good luck!

Dont give up! for all of the animals sake. just keep reporting and you can even call the police, just do anything because those animals do not deserve to live in those conditions. just raise awareness in your comunity so more people will know about this. the more people that know might even report this case and hopefully the ASPCA will take action before its too late. good luck and keep fighting!!

Report it to the police. If they do nothing, report it to several different rescues. That should work. ASPCA really focuses on the small animals, unless it is something that is going to get them a little fame. They may have too much on their plate right now. Or they have been there, and posted notices and stuff. You could take pictures of the animals and send it to them.

Technically, as long as the animals have food and water, there is nothing you can do with the ASPCA. Instead contact the police. They will do something about it, and they will also charge the man or even put him in prison because animal abuse is against the law.

Unfortunately, the law doesn't work quickly because they are tied up in red tape. They must have evidence of ongoing neglect, then they must give the owner so many days to comply with the law, then give a notice of seizure, etc etc etc. It takes alot to be able to legally take someone else's property, even if that "property" is a starving animal. By that time of course, animals can be suffering or dead. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

What you can do is keep talking about it, over and over! Call your local law enforcement (police, sheriff, etc). They're the ones who can use the law to intervene. For publicity and help, call the ASPCA, your local humane society and the local rescue. You can get these phone numbers from the phone book or internet. Then, and here's the hard part: KEEP CALLING. All of them. Every week. Be polite, but firm and detailed. Describe the animals' conditions and if you can take photos without trespassing, do so and pass them on.

The more attention that is paid to the case, the faster it will proceed. The more evidence and the more people watching, the faster those animal abusers can be prosecuted.

I really hope these animals go somewhere better and huge kudos to you for trying to do something about it! Keep trying!

I hate to say it but I know how you feel. A place down the road from our old boarding barn was just terrible. They had 8 horses on 3 acres. The pasture had no grass. They had two minis on less than a 1/4 acre pasture. And a stallion (who needed to be gelded) on 1/2 an acre. These horses had no shelter and in the biggest field (3 acres) they constantly had bulldozers and other heavy equipment jut left out in the field . One of the horses was so emaciated he looked like a skeleton with skin hung on him, had a bad knee and was blind in one eye, the owners still thought it was okay to ride him. They had 8 dogs that would bite and scratch anyone within 20ft of them and several chickens and the only water any of these animals had was hot and covered in algae. We reported them multiple times, and we weren't the only ones. The SPCA did nothing about it. My mom called about the place and evidently the SPCA thought the horses conditions were fine.
