Agreed, full time grazing on quality grasses is calming to the horse for many reasons; full belly means less gastric acids splashing around in the belly, natural vitamins/minerals equals a more natural diet, full time grass means no need for grain/carbs that can make them 'hot'...

There's no' calming food 'specifically manufactured for that purpose.

If you wish to give supplements with an eye toward calming nervous behaviour, try magnesium, or B vitamins (I like Thia-Cal from Finish Line). You can also look into different supplemtents like 'Clam' n Cool ',' Quietex ', etc ... but some of them contain L-Tryptophan which tests, and is illegal to compete on.

Well, my mare was an arab and a complete nightmare. She was crazy and never calm. I cut her of the lush grass and put her in a 'starvation paddock' with soaked hay. The feed I gave her was a low calorie feed (eg leisure feed) or i just put her on simple chaff . NOT build up cubes. Then I went to a local horse shop and bought a magnezium based liquid syringe (although can be bought in powder) it worked really well and transformed her. But i'd try ome training methods before changing her diet eg lots of half halts etc. Good luck!

If you want to give them a treat that will calm them down try thinking about malastis which is also known as the main ingredient to liquorish. It may not sound too good for a horse but it calms it down really well bu is not good if they have too much (give them about 2 cups depending on the size of horse)

TRANQS are not "foods"!
TRAINING alters behaviors-there's no magic grass!

I am USA in KY. out 'calming food' here would be grazing and eating hay! but I feed high protein to my Walkers for the Spirit I love to ride!
