Kimblewick bit size ??????????
My horse is in a 5.5 "eggbutt snaffle. When using a portmouth kimblewick, do i still use 5.5" or should I have a different size as the mouthpiece is different??

Thanks

l also have to ask why you are changing to a more sever bit? prehaps a fulmer snaffle will give you more control if its a control issue, or maybe a little more schooling.
to answer your question tho all bits should be the same size and fit. not to tight that it pinches but not to loose that it slided around.

sorry if l did not understand your question but as you asked 'do l still use' l assumed you were asking as you were changing bits .!!!

Actually it IS Kimblewick!!

Americans often refer to it differently ... for some reason they feel compelled to change the spelling of words all the time.

Also if you horse wears a 5.5 inch eggbutt snaffle it will be the same in the other.

However 5.5 is on the large size for the average horse?
Unless your horse is large?

So make sure there is not too much space between the cheek and ring.

If you were using a loose ring snaffle they do have to be fractionally larger then an eggbutt (due to the possibility of pinching).

Why are you changing your bit???

By the way, it's Kimberwick.
