My horse has mysterious brandings?
I have an 18 hand 8 year old horse that was imported into the US from Peru in 2008. They sold him to me as a holsteiner, some of his papers say so, but others, like his USEF registration is under a 10 year old thoroughbred. We know the previous owner had many horses and made mistakes with her accounts. I don't know anything about horses in Peru or how theyre bred etc. He was/is a great jumper, thats why his previous owner bought him and apparently spent a lot on him. However, my horse has a strange, large patch of missing hair where horses are typically branded; on his left hip. Also, he has a "9" on one side of his tail, and a "1" on the other side. I know he was not born in 1991 he has been checked by several dentists and vets confirming hes 8 years old. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about horses imported from Peru and what his strange brandings could mean. I'll leave links to pictures of his brands. Thanks so much to anyone that helps! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

answer: Hi! Your horse is very attractive! Looks like a lovely kind guy.
The numbers on his butt are the ones that are usually seen in polo horses from Peru and Argentina. He was probably used in polo when he was younger, and then someone got a hold of him and discovered his jumping potential.
The patch on his hip doesn't look like a brand, just a scratch or something.
