What is Ground work for horses?
My friend who trained my horse taught me and my horse some. Anyone know good techniques?
answer: Ground work is where you teach your horse to have good manners on the ground. (Not pushing you around, not stepping on you, etc..) What are you wanting to know?

For me, I have two types of ground work in category. ground WORK and ground DISCIPLINE. In general, both words mean the same for training horses..... but for me, there is a huge difference.
-Ground Work : lunging, lunging over poles, etc, free jumping, tricks, ground driving, walking over tarps, bridges, etc. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
-Ground Discipline : leading without fuss, herd separation, stepping on you, biting your hand or lead rope, kicking out, and general ground manners to keep both you and the horse safe.
If you need ideas or techniques for any specific one i mentioned or one you have in mind, dont hesitate to contact me :) lindsaygirl977@yahoo.com

I'm not 100% sure what your question is, so I'll try a few different answers:
Ground work is what we call exercises we do with our horse while we are on the ground, not riding. Lunging and in-hand work falls into this category.
Practice join-up with your horse, have him yeild his hindquarters in response to your body language, have him walk, trot, and halt next to you in-hand. Practice forehand and haunch turns in-hand. Set up an obstacle course to help desensitize your horse.
There are lots of things you can do with your horse on the ground :)
Ground work is the name for when you are not riding your horse, but when you are leading the horse with a lead rope.
