What is this "hammer"?

it could just be a scar or he laid down on something that left an inprint. he doesnt look overweight in this photot and being overweight would; t show that.

I would really try to address that belly. Either make sure he is on a regular deworming program or limit the excess grass he is getting. However, I wouldn't worry about the "hammer." It is most likely an indent from his hoof from laying down. It could possibly be an imprint from his position while in the uterus as a fetus but that really isn't the normal area for it to occur. He may have been positioned weird during birth. Either way it doesn't seem to be hurting him. It's a nice conversation starter!

Could be an old scar or it could be a prophet's thumbprint. That's an indentation in the musculature that the horse is born with. The legend is that the prophet Mohammed tested his horses, and those that passed his test he marked with his thumb. This mark was thought to signify a quality horse, but really has no bearing on the horse's worth one way or the other. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
