Ok I have conditioned my two bettas for weeks now. READY TO BREED! So I put them together in a 5 gal tank. At first the male was fighting with the female but then he flared his fins and she watched. Then they left each other alone for 15 mins or so and now their fighting again. Whats wrong with the female?
Sounds like everything is going perfectly. Its normal for them to bicker alot before breeding.
I assume the male has started with this bubble nest?
Some more detailed info for you:
The male and female nip and flare at each other (if either severely wounds the other, remove and do not continue with the spawn). He’ll continue to build and chase her away from the nest, until they finally spawn. At this time he embraces – squeezes – the eggs out of her. The fallen eggs are then picked up by the male (and also female sometimes) and placed in the nest. Let them continue until no more eggs are released and he chases her away from the nest and won’t let her return. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
EDIT: You're perfectly fine Animal. Unless you see any damage do not worry, Betta's are a very unique fish. Look up some videos on mating and spawning rituals. They don't always lie around and snuggle before they get busy. ;D
You're not giving the whole story, or you just haven't studied good enough on how to breed bettas.
You dont just. . . put them together! You must make an ideal breeding tank, 75-78 degrees F, and I suggest no rocks but many sinking plants and some floating ones. Make sure you have many big hiding spots so the female can hide if she gets too stressed.
THEN- after the tank is made and temperature is stable, add the male only. Let him get used to his surrounds for, eh, about a day. Then you may put the female in a chimney in the tank, or put her in a vase. As long as she is not able to get physical contact, but they can still see each other. After he notices her, he'll start to show off and soon he will find a place to build a nest. During this time the female will be aggressive and try to jump out (mine do) so you want to cover the top of the vase, but she still needs air.

After the bubble nest is big and ready (he will stop blowing) then you're ready. The nest can take anywhere from a day to over a week to build.
Carefully release the female, but make sure you dont disturb the nest! They will nip and chase around, but make sure you have a few hours to spare. NOTE- you can Not leave them alone for the day or over night. You'll most likely wake up to a dead mommy fish.
After they have bred, quickly take out mommy and put her in a nice clean tank to recover. Give her quality foods and don't put her back into her normal home until all fins are recovered and she is back to health.
After you see baby fry with Mr. Daddy Betta, that means that his work is done. You can take him out to recover as well in a nice clean tank. Make sure you feed him because when he is with fry he won't eat at all.
Anyway, fry eat many things that are live. Like brine shrimp.
Look up these sites and you'll have good furture breeding!
