BETTA - what type/brand Filter should I get for my 5 gallon betta tank?
I have my male betta in a 3 gallon tank @ the moment. He recently swam down the bubbler tube under the rocks & grate.. yikes! he was stuck sideways underneath. So I removed the rocks, & the grate best I could to free him. In the process I must have cracked the acrylic, circular tank, because now the its leaking, slowly but surely. I believe it cracked because the grate was jamed - with the rocks being stuck in the sides and all.. So I'm purchasing the 5 gallon glass tetra tank from Walmart. The reviews on the filter it comes with arent so good. I would like to purchase a good solid, not too expensive filter that wont bother my betta & will still help my tank. The flow/currant cant be to strong. Maybe one with settings? I'm also worried about the New filter I purchase fitting where the filter it came with was... Do you think most filters would fit? I assume its a cheapy plastic hood. I'll share a link with the tank I'm buying. I also need to purchase a heater, what is the best kind? A under gravel? or one that hangs? I'm not looking for judgemental people who are gonna tell me ALL about Bettas.. yes, I've heard it all. I know the jist, & I'm a good & proper fish keeper. Any tips on filters, heater, light bulbs, or anything else with a 5 gallon tank would be much appriciated. I'm planning on using non-colorful plants & rocks, I have black rocks now. ( I heard bettas dont like bright colors too much?? is that true) I also plan on using silk plants, & purchasing some kind of cave, or statue he can swim inside or through. Hoping he wont go into the bubble anymore! ALSO - my bubbler now is surrouned by the middle tube in my circular tank.. The new tank is just a normal rectangle glass tank.. What type of bubbler should I get? Is it ok if the bubbler isnt protected from my betta? Also I would like to purchase a lightbulb that will help my fishy's colors. What type watts? & should any lightbulb pretty much fit where the old one was? Any, help, knowledge, ideas, ASAP that arent snotty or judgemental would be amazing! thank you so muchhh
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I dont want anyone telling me rudely... thats all. I've read lots about fish on here, & everyone is so snappy right away to others. Cant we state facts nicely? geez
Heres the fish tank: Tetra 5 gallon @ walmart
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tetra-Aquarium… I don't think anyone could "Disapprove" of what you're doing. Yu're providing the necessary for the fish which is good! :D He will like the new tank. Filters... for just the one Betta the filter it comes with isn't bad. It's not so great with other fish but it's good for just a Betta IMO. If you can though he would like a sponge filter. Just get one that's sort of triangular and for up to ten gallons. That way you can have your bubbler and a gentle filter for him. As far as heaters. I suggest an adjustable submersible heater. Under the gravel... never used them. I just do the ones that stick to the side with suction cups... As far as lights... a regular light will do. In the proper tank with good care they color up really nicely. You shouldn't have a problem with the color. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I would just get a sponge filter, regular light natural substrate and silk plants. That would be good. Your Betta is in good hands.
@Lima Bean... YES FILTER! They need it just like other fish. Just because they can life in stagnant cold water doesn't mean they should.
If Walmart is the only store that sells fish tanks nearby you should go with the same tank plus the heater starter kit to save a bit of money. Undergravel heaters are used for keeping plants healthy, I've never seen them being used in a tank set up without plants.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tetra-5-Gallon…Buy an undergravel filter for your betta, they don't like currents and any tank with an HOB filter in it stresses my bettas out. HOB is easier to clean though and less problematic, so it's your choice. Sponge filters are also awesome for bettas, there are a lot of options, it just depends on your price range.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com If not, then I recommend an Eclipse tank for fishkeeping, much better filtration system. It's a bit more expensive, but has better equipment and since you're planning on buying a different filter anyway will cost you the same amount or less minus the trouble of changing filters.
Good luck!
If you aren't planning on planting real plants in your tank lighting isn't important. Any lighting system that comes with the tank is sufficient. Do not try changing the lightbulb in your tank with a higher wattage bulb as your ballast usually can't support the higher wattage.
