i have a 20 gallon tank (long) with a rainbow shark, clown pleco, and a dwarf gourami. Iam bored of the set up. So will they die if i change all the gravel and take away a rock and add more plant? I will be adding a product to add bacteria to the tank so no need to re cycle. I will not be taking away my pleco and rainbow sharks cave just 1 cave thats not rellly used and a rock. Can I do this?? Or will it kill my fish???
No your fish should be fine, when you change the gravel rinse out the old stuff in tank water and add that back into the tank with your new gravel, most of the beneficial bacteria should move straight back in, just keep up with regular water testing. Your fish may be a bit shy for a couple of days but there is no reason why they would die.
Cycling products don't work too well. I'd suggest keeping a handful of old gravel and putting it into a mesh bag (or the foot of a pair of stockings), and laying it on top of the new gravel for 2 weeks or so. It will allow the bacteria to spread to the new gravel. Adding/subtracting plants and other decorations should be fine.
It shouldn't kill your fish. They had to change environments when you bought them. I get bored with my fish tank too so I change it ALL the time! As for adding the bacteria, I'm not sure, so you could go to a local pet store or a local exotic fish store!

Adding stuff is fine, but don't remove everything all at once especially the gravel. Try to keep some of it in the tank. Most of the bacteria live in the gravel. Take out a little at a time and your fish should be fine.
Nope.
