i have a 55 gal aquarium, i just switched my plastic plants in for java fern. how do i take care of it?
Not much to do, really - they're generally very hardy plants. Just make sure it's getting enough light of the correct quality.
If you have fish in your aquarium, they'll take care of the fertilizing and CO2. Java ferns will slow their growth in relation to the resources available to them, so there's not much need to add CO2 or fertilizer.
They're also OK with relatively low light levels; a good-quality full-spectrum light on for 6-10 hours per day will keep them happy (you could go as low as 4 hours per day, but that's pushing it; if you go much over 12 hours you'll stress your fish and the plant will develop transparent "burn" spots).
you barely have to do anything. when it gets big, you can propegate by pulling it into sections. add some liquid fertilizer every so often if you want a lot of growth, but java fern doesn't really need it. try to keep it out of strong light otherwise algae will swamp it.
hahahaa java fern is the easiest plant to take care of! just keep light on for at least 7 hours a day and itll do fine ... just make sure wattage of light in your tank is 1-2 wats per gallon for a java fern ...
