im looking to start a hydroponic system with my fish tank and fish im looking at hanging my plant above the tank with a airlift to them and drain back to my tank but not sure if its save or not
Not impossible, but you need to choose the plants with care. The nutrient level in an aquarium should be much less than it would be in a conventional hydroponic system, if you want the fish to live anyway.
But there are many plants that can survive with their roots in water and leaves exposed to air. Lucky Bamboo would be a good candidate. Also look at the various "bog" type plants, These are commonly grown in pots clipped to the inside of a tank, so could also work in setup.
I suggest you will want a powerhead or pump of some sort to move a steady flow of water. Airlifts are not much use for lifting much water to any great height.

Not a good idea, fertilizers will kill fish and almost all potting soil has some type of fertilizer. Also, it could alter the PH in the tank, add nitrates, make your filter work harder than it should, etc. There are a lot of reasons this is not a good idea. As far as the plant goes, the plant will be fine. Your fish on the other hand will not fair so well :-) Very creative idea, but I think fish and plants are best kept as two separate projects
i think it would save:)
