I was looking at the Petco fish section yesterday and it said Cichlids had "Unique and Interesting behavior". What is so unique and special that separates them from other fish?
People say they show more 'personality' compared to your smaller community fish. They can become quite interacted with both you and other fish.
Some will follow your finger around, larger ones in particular will let you hand feed them and pat them.
Most of them have an aggressive nature and interact with each other in a way that is interesting, not just swimming back and forth constantly. Also breeding behaviour can be interesting too.
I have some and they are amazing, they rearrange the tank furniture, have different personalities, they dont just do the same things over and over like goldfish. lots of stuff
i'm not sure since I'm not expert, but they're very territorial and some actually move rocks around to their liking. they also take care of their young very well. some do not eat them and will protect their young till death.
