You can buy algae killer made for aquariums, but that is kinda just a band-aid for the problem because the algae will still come back again and again. I've found the easiest way to keep algae in check and help keep the tank healthy is adding a few snails. They eat all the algae and leftover food. They are very beneficial to the tank as long as you get the right kind. Make sure you get either mystery snails, apple snails or trapdoor snails. All the other types breed like crazy, but I've had mystery's, apples and trapdoors for years and never had a problem with over population. Hope this helps :-)
