How many fish can a 5 gallon fishtank hold?

I have a 5 gallon aquarium and I want to know how many fish I can put in it.
The only commonly available fish that can be housed in a 5 gallon is a single Betta.

Be sure that you have both a heater and a gentle filter, and that you have a good understanding of the nitrogen cycle before you bring any fish home.
About 1-3, depending on the type of fish ... and they 'd have to be pretty small. A couple of cherry barbs, or guppies, or neon tetras, or platies, or a single betta would do fairly well. Research some types of fish you like, paying special attention to the mature adult size of the fish. You'll want a couple that are no more than about 1 1/2 "fully mature and not territorial.
ok, some fish are social, like guppies and dont mind being in large groups in small spaces, so if you keep up on weekly water changes, around 6 guppies or smiler fish
2 or 3 guppies, or platies, or one betta, or bamboo shirmp/ghost shrimp, or a couple african dwarf frogs
sorry but not much a 5 gallon tank is pritty small ou can only house a few guppies or a betta or some ghost shrimp
1 and thats just a single male or female betta
