where do i get the beef heart??? do i rinse than put it in or do i put it in frozen or thawed?? and will my eels eat it too
Almost to an individual they love ghost shrimp. Beefheart is available frozen at most fish shops. Thaw any frozen food first.
Beefheart and ghost shrimp should both fed as treats, especially the beefheart because even though it's very lean, it does contain fat, and mammalian fat is bad for fish.
Knife fish will take pellet, although it can be a pain getting them started. HBH SuperSoft krill is my "go to" pellet for picky predators, so far all have taken it. Once they get used to it you can feed other good quality pellets.
I haven't tried BGK on earthworms, but every other predator I've tried liked them, so I bet they would too. My African Brown Knife loves them. Nightcrawlers are a bit too big for him, but red wigglers he adores.
They seem to each have their own favorite food. One may like California black worms. Another one may prefer a particular brand of flake food. If you can, avoid putting up with this and give them a variety of foods to eat so they don't get addicted to a single food.
