My fish is laying on its side and keeps trying to swim up but its stuck there on his side. On one side (the one facing down) it looks like blood rushed to his gills. This has happened before but this time the fish can keep its mouth under water allowing him to continue breathing. Help! what kind of fish is this? and what kind of tank is it living in?
It could be that the tank you're using has no filtration system, and it's dying of ammonia poisioning. I used to keep goldfish, and when they were getting too much amonia their bodies would start to look red like you described. I'll write more after you answer those Ques.

Change the water completely, what kind of fish is it? if it is a goldfish, it needs a minimum of 20 gallons to live in. You must also have a filter for any type of fish. To start change all of the water. The only thing you can really do as of now is change the water immediately.
