If you are feeding him the pellet type, they may be to hard for him to eat. Try feeding him the flake type instead, it's much softer and may help him eat it without waiting for it to break down. Yes, it is kinda bad because that means a lot of food is getting waisted which can contaminate the water
I dont think you should be worried. it may just do that because it is the easiest to eat. I have 2 female betta fish and when i feed them they wait for the pellets to sink to the bottom and they eat it off the rocks. hope this helps. GL
