Hey anymore Advice on this algae? It looks like hair almost but starts out fuzzy. It is destroying my plants fast. I used the Excel to no avail. I did a blackout like others have said but it kept growing. I don't want to use chemical Algae killers but I might have too. Any Idea what this stuff is? Here is a pic of it.

What plants are these? What size tank and what type of lighting do you have? Also, what temp do you keep the tank at?
My immediate guess is that your light is insufficient to support good plant grown. Algae takes much less light to grow, which is why it takes over. Also, the algae is most likely not attacking the plants, it's feeding off dying tissue on the plants .

The lighting should be fine. I would look at other possibilities.
If your nitrates and/or phosphates are very high, algae can take over a lot. A high fish load or poor quality water can attribute to excess nitrates and phosphates.

If the plants are new, it's often common for some die-off while they are acclimating to the new lighting and water conditions.
The plants may not be true aquatic plants. Many of the plants at petsmart/petco (especially the ones that come in the plastic tubes) are not fully aquatic. They are bog plants and will eventually die in an aquarium.
There may not be enough of the correct nutrients in the aquarium for the plants. They need fertilizer just like plants in the garden. If they have deficiencies, algae can take over due to their weakening.
