Our betta fish is very sick. The ph is around 6.4 which is too low, even changing some of the water didn't really help much. Help, what should I do?
You could add some crushed coral to the filter or tank ... that should bring it up a bit but a betta can live in a pH as low as 6.5 which is only 0.1 off which is not that big of a difference at all ... a fluctuating pH is more detrimental to a fish than a constant one that is not perfect ... but do know if you buffer the water and increase the pH, if your tap water is 6.4 then every time you do a water change, the pH will fluctuate ... you should not use bottled or reverse osmosis water, just use your tap water ... have you measured the pH of your tap water???
Don't mess with the pH, thats NOT the problem. Betta will be happy with any pH between 6 and 8, it's simply not important.
I can't tell you exactly what is wrong, but check the temperature first, needs to be over 70F, and preferably up around 75-80.
Also check the water quality, ammonia or nitrate buildup will also make fish sick. It may need more water changed.

While it is possible to adjust the pH, that's simply not the problem.

Where did you get the water that you change with?
You should test the Ph on the water you get to change the water.
It could be the rocks or ornaments in the aquarium that change the PH.
And yes you can go to a pet store or Pet smart and get the PH and just read on the instruction. Or you can ask the people who is working there.
Best of luck and I hope your betta will be ok.
Go to the pet store that has aquariums and fish, talk to the person working there they have stuff that safe to adjust the ph.
Go to your LFS store and ask them what gravel are suitable to make ur ph go up or you could find some products that boosts your ph.
