One of my Neon Tetra is having white spots! What to do?

Should i turn the heater up. Its winter time here but its not really cold. What should i do?
First of all, quarantine it immediately. The most common source of white spots on fish is Ich, which is a type of parasite. Any time you have a sign of suspicion, such as spots or lumps or something similar on a fish, it's a good idea to quarantine it simply for safety's sake, as most aquarium fish diseases are contagious.

Do the spots look like this? http://www.aquariumfishworld.com/wp- cont ... If so, you've definitely got Ich.

Ich is a common, highly contagious parasite, but luckily, it's also relatively easy to treat, and, if you catch it early enough on, shouldn't be fatal. Turn to the page I've sourced for full answers on treatment, but buy Ick Away from Wal-Mart's pet section to begin treatment. It's much cheaper than the same treatment you can get from their pet section. It's what I used when I had an Ich outbreak and it worked out beyond perfectly. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Good luck, and if it's not the white spots your fish has, I'm sorry! D: Next time you should put up photos with the question so people will better know what they're dealing with.
If you're sure it's white spot, which will look like small grains of salt on your tetras fins or body you can either treat with the salt method and raising the temperature in your tank, or using a medication for the parasite.

I would not advise quarantining the fish. Ich (white spot) is highly contagious and by the time you see the spots your whole tank is infected and should be treated.

Anything with malachite green (ie. Quick Cure and a few other products) is highly effective for ich and usually kills the parasite within a few days with no need to raise the temp in your tank.

The only problem in dealing with tetras is they are a little more sensitive and require half the dose of any medication containing malachite green.

So your choices are the salt method or medication designed for the parasite. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

If you choose medicating - a partial water change before treatment and remove carbon filters.

Any medication you choose should come with special dosage instructions regarding scaleless fish and fish in the tetra family
you can use a Ich treatment for your neon tetras but remove first the carbon on your filter. And also I found out in www.aqualandpetsplus . com that Ich germs loves cold weather.Just go on aqualand and find for more information on how to cure your fish.I hope your fish gets well soon.
White spots on fish is normally a fungal growth/disease called ick.

Go to your local pet store and use it as label says.

Good luck!
