Hi
On saturday i bought 5 new guppys and got my aquarium tested and the test said my aquarium water was good.
But i woke up on sunday to see that one wasnt eating but when i put on the filter his fin went up and he was fine
Today though this morning they were all fine but wen i got bk one of them had died (not the one that was ill the day before) he didnt show any signs. If anything he was the most energetic of the lot.
Why and should i take action. Btw the other guppys are perfectly ok and are eating well including the sick one on sunday.?
thanks Mike
PS ... i named him chelsea ....., why is it always the one that u grow attached to!!
Sometimes what we take for energetic activity can really be erratic behavior brought on by stress. Sometimes even in ideal conditions, new fish just don't acclimate well to a new environment.
What were your test results?
What's the temperature?
Do you leave the filter on 24/7?
I have had fish before and I bought 4 from WalMart and they all died one night. Be careful where you get your fish from. If they are not taken care of before you get them then they will probably die. Also look for Ick which looks like sugar crystals on the fish, it is a fish disease that will kill them. Try to keep the water at a constant temperature, you don't want the temperature to change too much or it might make them sick.
You mensioned that you 'turned on the filter' does this mean you turn it off at night? If this is the case then this is likely the reason for your guppies death. They need full filtration 24/7. The death was likely a too high build up of amonia in the tank. (You didn't say how big the tank is). The smaller the tank the more likely this is. Also Guppies are notorious for breeding non stop I hope you have a ratio of 1 male to 2 females or all males.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Try to avoid turning it off at all. How did you acclimate the to the tank? Did you float the bag, and drip acclimate? Is your tank cycled? There are many reasons why he could have died. The stress might have been too much . Adding the fish could have caused an amonia spike. Try to monitor the remaining fish for signs of ich or fin rot.
Other then that theres little you can do.
Its was propalry ill but did not show any signs wich is very common with guppys or it wase old becouse pet stores and people sell them when about 1 & 2 years of age but 1 & ; 3 is there maximum life span or mybe the other guppys did not leave a chance for him to eat becouse some guppys eat them all forthemselves so next time ask the person that sold them to you how old are i the fish as the fish spawned with another guppy before and try to get unleast a 20 gallon tank so those are my tips
he could have been just stressed, i've lost more than one that way. watch the others closely over the next few days for ANY signs of disease. also, one of the males could have bullied the other one, check for ripped fins and signs of bullying. good luck.
Probably stress from the new environment.
sounds like he drowned D:
