I have just got a 14 gallon tank and are getting more guppies. I want to breed them, but I don't want to end up with like a million fry and have no where to put them. I was thinking of only getting one female to just breed a few, but I also like the males. So can you breed guppies with 4 males and 1 female or is that a bad idea?
With 4 males constantly chasing her she will die from stress/exhaustion or never produce fry cause stress makes them abort/absorb fry. Not a good idea. A 14 gallon could only hold 3 males and 6 females at the VERY MOST. In 14 gallons with 4 males, it wouldn't really work. 4 males and 5 females wouldn't work either cause only one will rarely get a break at a time.
3 males, 6 females is best for 14 gallons, and it will be stocked ...
Heck no! With breeder fish, such as sword tails and guppies, it is never a good idea to have a higher ratio of males than females. The male fish will constantly hound and harass the female until she dies of the stress.
If you're really interested in breeding the guppies, try starting off with just one male and two females for the moment, and then raising up the fry and keeping them instead of buying more. You'll wind up with males and females in the fry, and the females won't be too terribly overstressed.
Bad idea. A single female will be constantly pestered by the males and get very stressed. It's always better to keep more females than males.

with guppies its best to have more females than males. A single female is going to be constantly harassed by all those males.
Yeh it's a bad idea go for one male 2 females
