I forgot to rinse my sand before i put it in my aquarium ...

I got a 60 litre tank yesterday for my son and it came with the filter and heater and i got some very, very think sand from the aquarium shop.

I put the sand in and set up the heater and filter and poured the water in. The water has gone cloudy (this was 3pm yesterday) and it looks quite a lot clearer today but is this a big problem? Also, i can see the light on the heater comes on and off (kinda like a timer) but the water doesn't seem any warmer yet ... will this take time?

Thanks for the help:)
Because the tank is new, you can just syphon out the cloudy water and refill the tank. Try not to disturb the sand when you refill. Putting a small bowl or plate in the tank, and pouring the water into that can help. Or just wait, most of the silt will settle out over time.

The heater going on and off is normal, but you need a thermometer to check the temp. If the room is warm the water may feel about the same temp, even if the heater has warmed it up a few degrees.

It will take time to clear,

you should have washed sand but you forgot

so you will have more dust than normal

the water temperature is not high enough for you to feel by hand so you need an aquarium thermometer

once water is clear, make sure you add a water conditioner to start the filter working

it takes bacteria in filter to clean water
Hiya, don't worry its normal for the water to go cloudy as long as its cleared it will stay clear now. As for the temp it will probably take time, I was advised to get it to the temp it needed to be before putting in the tank n then the heater keeps warming it through but not sure.
