My platy spits out its food?
she lives in a 100l with two more platys one, one three spot gourami, one pleco, two mollys and several neon tetras. Since one week ago, she started spitting her food and swimming around like she's tired. She is not eating. Temp. is at 26C, nitrites and ammonia are ok. what's wrong with her??
how long has she being doing it for? maybe she just isnt hungry could be eating plant life if you have it or finding food on the floor and having it then
She is eating, just not getting her fiber. Fish can squeeze out the "juice" from a flake of food, then spit out the rest. She probably noticed that there is plenty of food plenty of the time. The 3 spot could be intimidating her. Gouramis often go after smaller fish. Have you noticed anything like that? Feed only what the fish will eat, then siphon or net out any uneaten food if you estimated wrong. Neons like soft acid water, preferably stained with peat moss or a handful of oak leaves. Platies are from cooler climates in limestone areas with very hard water. Mollies are from estuaries where the tides cause the water to change from full ocean salinity to brackish and when it is raining, perhaps to nearly fresh water. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
26c is warm for the platies, but fine for the mollies and the neons. Mo matter the temperature, hardness, or salinity, someone is not going to like it with that mix of fish. Looks like we know who.
That is only 26 gallons and with ALL those fish I doubt you have good water quality.
>Platies: Need 3+ per group
>Mollies: Need 3+ per group, require brackish water to live a healthy lifespan
>Plecos: Not many Pleco species can be in a 26 gallon. All I can think of is Clown Plecos and Bristlenose Plecos. Either would take up a lot of room and not leave much space for other fish. They are also salt~intolerant and shouldn't be kept with Mollies for that reason,
>Blue/3~Spot Gourami: Really? I mean REALLY? Why would you have a semi~aggressive fish that can reach 4-6" in with little tropical fish? Yeah, if I was a poor little Platie I'd stop eating too. That Gourami would fully stock a 20 gallon with a 26 gallon being better.

You need to decide what kind of aquarium you want as you have fish for 3 different set~up requirements.
1st. Community aquarium: Neon Tetra's and Platies. Neon's shouldn't be with mollies either.
2nd. Brackish: 4-5 Mollies would need a 20 gallon alone
3rd. Semi~aggressive/aggressive: 3~spot Gourami
Decide which set~up you want and return the rest.
A 26 gallon is too small for all those fish and you have fish together that shouldn't be. That is why you should RESEARCH before buying! Your Platie and most likely ALL the other fish are stressed.
platy are a bit of a scavenger fish at times and could be eating when you aren't looking. Mine eat algae and just about anything they find, I've seen 1 eat a baby snail recently, or apparently each other if you don't see the other fish right away. I lost my only adult male platy last week, just all of a sudden didn't see him anymore and went looking, there was a little left of him at the bottom of a clump of plants, when I went to fish him out that night, found him just before dinner, he was gone.
fast her for 3 days and she'll come around.....
