I have accidentally killed three betta fish in about three weeks. What am I doing wrong?
I read about betta fish before getting one, and I am doing everything that everyone says to do. My first fish jumped out of his bowl and died, but I have since started putting mesh on the top of the bowl. I got the first two from petsmart, but after the second one died, I got one from a tropical fish specialty store. I change the water every 2-3 days, I have a heater, i feed the fish a pebble or two a day, I put betta conditioner in the water, and I monitor the temperature. What am I doing wrong?
Your fish is in a bowl. Bowls are not a proper home for any fish. Bettas need 5+ gallons plus a filter and heater.

Betta fish are very aggressive fish, at least the male ones, but i hope you're not putting them in the same tank, because it actually causes them a great deal of stress and could lead to their death. It seems you are doing everything else correctly, maybe they're just unlucky fish! Good luck though
You are changing the water too often. You're not letting anything build up that the fish needs. Take you water in to the pet store where you got your bettas and have them test the water. That should give you the answers.
your fish need a small tank not a bowl and little rocks at the bottom

Don't overheat the water. And you're supposed to feed them twice a day. I would feed them tropical flakes. I'm not really sure what you mean by "pebble"s.
maybe its cause you change the water too often ? once a week would be fine
Just get a small tank with a filter and heater and do 30% changes every week. With all these water changes that you're doing right now, you may be stunning the fish again and again because the new water was a different temperature. Imagine going from warm suddenly to toasty to freezing cold. Fish aren't as tough as us, they can die because you forgot to turn of a bright light (experience). It's not uncommon for fish to die of stress.
Betta fish are very easy to own but even though it is said they do not need an air pump , they do.. at walmart the sell a 1 gallon tank that has a light, lid , under gravel filter, air pump, and tubing for 10$$ plus comes with conditioner and a food sample. this would be best. better pellets are better than flakes. also try to get a little thing are freeze dried brine shrimp. sold in a container just like regular fish food. i would give him 3 pellets ( pebbles ) in the morning and 1 or 2 of the brine shrimp in the evening. you should also not have a heater with a Betta fish, they regulate their own heat compared to other fish, also because they can breathe oxygen. also you are def. cleaning the tank to often. i clean mine every 2 weeks if you see it is getting a little cloudy before the 2 mark period of time, change just about half of the water. also Betta conditioner should be done once when you put new water in, and you should only put about 1 or 2 drops and wait about 15 min before putting the fish back in the tank. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
fish also strive by their surroundings so add some gravel and a fake plant and this next fish will last you a while

your problem is you are keeping them in a bowl. bowls are not suitable homes for bettas or any other fish. they cant be heated (bettas are tropical need warm water) and they cant be filtered. just because bettas are seen as a hardy fish (and not all are) doesnt mean they should live in their own filth. and ive heard about bettas jumping out of their own water just so they can find somewhere cleaner to live.

a betta should have a 5 gallon tank that is heated and filtered.
