I have a pet crawfish who wont eat his food.?
About 2 years ago when i worked at a pet store we got a tiny little Crawfish in with a bag of comets. He stayed in the tanks about 7 months until he started eating a ton of comets and we didn't know what to do with him. So, i knew i had a spare 15 gallon tank at home with the filter and gravel and brought him home. He's been pretty neat and is now a large guy. The problem is, he has stopped eating his comets! He used to eat about 4 a week. I would buy them all at once and he would periodically eat them. The last 4 i bought though he wont touch! They're not too big for him to eat. I waited about 9 days before i knew i had to feed him something so i gave him some bottom feeder pellets that i have for my plecostomus in separate tank. He ate it up! He has now been living on them for about 3 weeks. I know that this is an odd question, and he is an unusual pet but can he eat this for the rest of his life? (He's about 2 years old ) What else might he like? He seems normal, for a crawfish i mean. The comets are living happily with him forever now i assume. I have researched them but all the info i find just says they are bottom feeders and scavengers and none of the info really focuses on their diet as pets. Thanks a ton! :)
I am assuming that your crawfish is similar to what call here in Australia "yabbies" pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
If so, these are indeed scavangers and will eat most anything. I have a dam of about 1 acre that is chock full of yabbies that the kids love to catch.I occassionally throw a bucket of trout pellets into the dam or even a bale of straw and this seems to feed them fine as they continue to grow and breed.
