Converting to a Brackish tank?
1. How long can Ghost shrimp survive in brackish conditions? (they're being added specifically for food and will be gut loaded for nutritional value)
2. How do you make a brackish tank (I know about salt and I have some it's called oceanic salt)
Here's what I want in it
1. Dragon Goby
a) I should consider him being 20 gallons of stock?
b) Yes I realize they're not the easiest fish to keep that's why i want to do it. I'm good at maintaining water conditions now and I would like something harder than Betta's and other freshwater fish.
c) No they're not freshwater fish
d) ANd no they're not agressive fish (If you can provide me with hard evidence to support the fact that they ARE then give me that website preferably not wikipedia and not some random forum as those are not considered credible by any means) pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
That's all of the ideas I have so far. I would like some other fish in there though maybe 1-2 medium/ larger brackish water fish.
1. No Puffers or mollies I have puffers already and I don't much care for mollies anymore since they're too easy
2. The fish can be a bit of a challenge to keep as long as they're not as sensitive as .... marine fish for example.
3. Preferably fish that are not going to cost me more than 20 dollars a fish as I'm working on a tight budget since I'm a broke college student.
On the conversion
1. What decorations go with a brackish tank I want it to look natural I don't like a bunch of miss matched items that remind me of clown throw up...
2. What plants if any would do well in brackish water?
3. Will adding salt kill all the nitrifying bacteria on the filter media? The tank is already cycled and I would like for it to stay that way...
ok so you whant a brackish tank with a dragon goby good choice very nice fish and yes they are very clam and are not mean at all. they have to smal of throats to be mean. a dragon goby will go great with neon tetras gupies dojo louch and even some other fresh water fish. fresh water fish can live in brackish water for long periods of time i have a brackish water tank with mollies guppies kuhli louches neon tetras and 2 dragon gobbies but the dragons are still small. now it is hard to get plants to grow in brackish water but some times it can be done. a mudskipper is hard to tak care of asis a dragon goby witch seams liek wat u want. they both go great together. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
my neons have been alive for 2 years in brackish water. and 1 dragon goby needs only 35 gallons long. in wild every fish gets bigger in captivity its rae to see dragon gobbie grow more then 14 inches long. i have had one fore 4 years and he only 11 inches long now and ahse been 11 inches for a year. and drogon gobbies live on the bottom on the tank not middle or top they say 50 gallons so he has alot of room on th ebottom of the tank to swim around and they also say 50 gallons cuz they like groups. i seen a mudskipper and a 2 year old dragon goby in the same 45 gallon tank dragon goby was pretty big but still had room to swim.
i see what you are saying. i have had fish all my life witch is 20 soem years now. a really good tank mate for a gobbie is guppies and silver mono and spotted scat. never owned the 2 at the end so i would do soem reserch to find out ther aggrestion but i have seen pics of them being with dragon gobbies. Colombian Shark Catfish is brackish to but i do not kno anything about these fish.
