Should I put angel fish, or Oscar fish in a 50 gallon tank?

  I have a 50 gallon tank.

I am thinking of setting it up again.

Im either thinking of putting a bunch of angel fish in there, or Oscar fish in there.

If I do angel fish in there, whats the maximum i can put in there?

If I do the Oscars, can I have more than one in there? Or will they fight?
Angelfish would be a better option. Oscars grow large and with excessive water changes you could pull off 1 in a 50 gallon but it should have a slightly bigger tank like a 75 gallon. Oscars can top 12 "in length and even the standard 55 gallon is just 1 foot deep, so it's really uncomfortable for adult Oscars to turn around in such tanks.

If you keep Angelfish, you could a few juveniles, but if two pair up to spawn, you would have to remove the rest because the spawning pair will aggressively kill off all other middle and top dwelling fish in the tank. In the wild they usually just push the other fish out of their space but in tanks the space is limited, which leads to the death of other Angels. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

You could keep the spawning pair with a few large Corys like Sterbai Corys or some other bottom dweller like a Bristlenose Pleco. I would go for the Sterbai Corys. They generally stay away from the mating pair and have armored backs so they're kind of safe. But the Bristlenose would work too.

If you decide to keep just one Angelfish, you could add in other tank mates with it, like Blackskirt Tetras, African Butterfly Fish, Guppies, etc.
Go with the Angelfish. You can probably keep 6 adults in there. Angelfish generally grow to about 6 "long, still a sensible size fish for that tank.

A single Oscar really needs more space than a 50gal, and pair certainly does. If they don't fight, the cramped conditions and poor water quality will stunt them and affect their health. A healthy Oscar should reach 12 "or more, not enough space in that tank.

If you want more than one, go with angels. Oscars bought at the same time and size will be unlikely to fight, but the water will get dirty much too quickly and too often for you to reasonably be able to keep up with. With just angels, you could keep about 8 - Make sure to invest in test kits and whatever you need to keep the water clean, they're rather delicate.
I think you should get a Oscar because Oscar's look better together and by there self and the reason i know is because i have some. If you get them both @ the same time they won't fight but if you get them @ difference time's it's a 50-50 chance they might fight but if they do it's because of temerity & they don't know each other but they will get over it a day or two
I guess it just depends on how many fish you want to keep. You should have an 1 inch of fish per a gallon. So, you can 50 inches of fish in your 50 gallon tank.

Here is a good website about Oscars:

http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?h=osca ...
Oscars need 75 gallons as they grow 12-15 ". Angel fish need 30 gallons for one and 2 need 50 gallons as they reach 6-7" (I have seen bigger). Angelfish do better in pairs anyways ... Don't get an Oscar Please.
75 gallons is the minimum for oscars so no oscars in a 50 gallon. I would put no more than 4 angelfish in the tank.
no for the Oscar . In a 50 gallon, no more than 3 Angelfish although 2 is better.
No the oscar will kill it.
