My goldfish cannot swim anymore. It lies at the bottom of the tank all of the time but it is still alive and seems helpless because it can't swim but tries to. When it does try to swim it looks as if the only thing that can move a tiny bit is its back fin, but it can't "swim" up far. I have had this fish for a few years now and it never had this problem before. Any ideas on why this is happening?!!
It's probably dying. That's a symptom of old fish.
Or maybe there's not enough oxygen in your tank??? Maybe you should put an oxygen pump inside .....
I once reared a betta, and weeks later it floated on the surface and not moving. I thought it was dead and decided to scoop him up a few days later. Til the time i wanted to do so, it's swimming again, as lively as ever.
