I want to give my brother a fish for his birthday, what kind

I want to get him a fiah that dosent eat much, easy to clean, won't die to soon, not to expensive. Just something for a 10 year old.
Your best choice would be a betta. They are beautiful and colorful and won't die soon, easy to clean, and are inexpensive. http://www.keepingpetfish.com/cache/4450 ...

They come in a variety of colors.

I had a betta experience when I was 10 and it lived for 3 years it was fun:) They don't require a very big tank but you need at least about a 2.5 gallon tank or even better a 5 gallon tank but some people do bowls and in consideration bettas can live in bowls ... it may not be the best idea for most people but it's possible unless you want to get a giant bowl .. which is alright. I personally would get a 5 gallon tank at least. Although, make sure to just to have one male betta ... unless you want to buy a female but then you would need more than one female. Male bettas will be aggresive to others so just leave it as one. Good luck.
A child so young should not feed, or clean the tank unsupervised.

A single betta should have about a 5 gallon tank, a gentle filter, and an aquarium heater to maintain the temperature between 78F-82F.

Diet:

I recommend feeding Hikari betta pellets. Offer 2-3 pellets per day. Do not overfeed.

Cleanings:

Using a gravel siphon, vacuum the gravel of the tank to remove waste, and suck out about 25% of the water. Replace with fresh, conditioned water of similar temperature.

Personally, I would not recommend buying a fish or any pet as a gift. It's giving someone a responsibility they may not want or be ready for.

ssmookie-Bettas can live 5-7 years when properly cared for, though 2-3 is common because of poor living conditions.
a betta, goldfish are good but they let off amonia they eat a ton and they get huge. a betta is calm. [DONT BUY TWO !!!!] they are beautiful. if you want a good looking betta i suggest the males. they have the longer fins. and get a small one because the larger ones mean they are the older ones . a female has short and stubby fins and they arent as pretty. good luck (:

i hope i helped
5 gallon with heater, filter ... Everything else you need will be $ 60-70 to set up.

10 gallon will be $ 70 - $ 90 maybe when you buy EVERYTHING he will need.

A Fish really doesn't make a good gift. A fish is a living thing and is harder to care for than some other pets. It is best that he decides he wants a fish. Get him something more special. As someone else mentioned he should not be cleaning the aquarium himself. You would get stuck cleaning it every week when it will need a 25% water change. Also NOTHING can live in a bowl!

Get him the Sponge Bob Movie or whatever ...
Get your brother a 5 gallon tank and 1 male betta. Your brother and your betta will be happy! DONT BUY GOLDFISH!!! AND DONT BUY ANYTHING LESS THAN 5 GALLONS! !! If he wants a community tank get at least a 10 gallon:) And if oyu do the betta idea then make sure the tank is heated and filtered! Dont believe the betta myths! They need heaters, cant live in bowls, and they dont like small tanks!! I hope I helped:) And btw no fish other fish other than bettas can live in a 5 gallon tank! And u can only have 1 betta bc they fight! And kill eachother!
Get a betta but make sure that you tell him how to take care of them the right way! Do NOT get 2 it will not matter if they are the same gender or not they will fight and one will die if not both!!!
Something easy is a Betta. I have one and he is very old, (ive had him for 1 year now) and he is still alive! I feed him each day but not much he does
I would get a Male Betta fish. ONLY 1 MALE! they will live in a fairly small tank and easy to take care of. They are also pretty cheap and very cool looking.
A beta!!! dont get goldfish though .. they die too quickly.
goldfishhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh: D
