I have been having trouble figuring out how to feed my betta sorority + guppy and three platys tank. The guppy and platys need some veggie matter, of course, but the bettas shouldn't have any so I have been at a loss for what to do.
I would usually have to wait until all the bettas (there are five) saw it was feeding time, and drop a betta pellet in front of their face to be eaten instantly for each of them. If I didn't do that, the bettas never got any pellets because the platys like to steal them. Then I would put tropical fish flakes in for the platys and guppy but the bettas would still eat that.
I figured it out today. I also have betta flakes, and will feed that to them regularly, along with my former method of feeding the pellets one by one. I went out and bought some algae wafers and am going to put some in occasionally for the veggie eaters.
Only problem, I put one in, and they completely gorged themselves with it. Now all three platys and guppy are super bloated.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com How can I prevent that from happening again, and how long should I wait to feed them again?
I would use a good all-round flake (one with some vegetable content, but not too much) for all the fish and then maybe give the platies and guppy a piece of an algae wafer once in a while. In the wild platies and guppies mostly eat small crustaceans and insect larvae. They're not especially vegetarian.
I'd wait a couple of days before feeding the fish again.
