So recently in the pet shop I saw these red minor tetras that I thought were quite beautiful. I would love to get 2, possibly two females and was wondering if they would be suitable in my current tank.
I have a 25 gallon with 6 neon tetras, 1 silver molly and a few baby black mollies.
If I were to get two females would they be okay with the neon tetras? Will they mate together? I hope not lol, thanks!
Well since they are schooling fish you couldn't just get 2. You'd have to get at least 4.
No, they won't spawn together.
With your current stock you could potentially get 6 red minors (also called Serpae tetra's).
They'd do much better in a larger school and they'd be happier. They should be fine with your current fish, some people have said they've experienced aggression from them .. as in nipping. But I've been keeping them (I have 7 in a community tank - 55 gallons) for years without any problems. I've had 6 of them for around 7 years now. I've found them to be peaceful fish when kept properly.

Best of Luck .. I highly recommend these fish.

Well in the pet store there is ussually a map of what fish go good together. You should look at that. Now if you want females only, that will be based on risk depending what store you are at. If you are at the pet stores i go to all there breeds are housed together like tetras males and females are put together. and ike a certain breed male and females are housed together so if you want to get just females that is going to be pretty hard. going back to the first question if you don't have a chart do the research LOL and find out if they go together.
