I just finished cleaning my betta's (named Charles) tank. He was in a cup for about half and hour while I was cleaning (I do it every week). I always inspect him for diseases while he is in the cup, today I noticed that his back fin is torn, not through the whole fin, it's like a big hole in the middle. This really sucks cause he is BEAUTIFUL, he is purple with white on his fins. Is there anyway the fin with heal and grow back or will it be torn forever?
Yes you should add aquarium salt because that will prevent infections for the time being. It sounds like fin rot to me but to make sure just observe him for a few more days and see what happens. if it gets bigger go to the pet store and they have some medication that will help the tale grow back and prevent the fin rot from ever comming back. i hope your fish is ok. the same thing happened with my betta i had for 2 years and i gave him the salt and medication and he was fine for another year but he died the other day (from old age i guess) bettas are great pretty fish and easy to care for. as long as you do what told you he should be fine and live a long happy fish life. Good Luck:)
I would add aquarium salt to his tank and then go to your local pet store to get a medication for fin rot or torn fins. If you have any sharp rocks, plants , decorations, etc., then take them out. They may be tearing his fins.
