cichlid ideas for a 55g aquarium?

i have a 55g aquarium with 2 nice heaters, sand substrate, dec. with rockwork, driftwood, and few plastec plants. my ph stays at 8.8 all the the time so i decided african cichlids would most likely be my best route. i figure i could get away with 2 larger pictus catfish and a couple bristlenose plecos. i will be getting small cichlids and take a chance with the catfish. which species of cichlids and amount of each do you think i should get?
Let's see 55 gallons , African cichlids there's a yellow labs and kribensis that in my opinion would work best. They both reach around 4-6 inches usually, I would get 3 of each with the catfish, without them I'd get 4 of one species and 3 of the other. Hope that helps.
