I got 2 coldwater fish about 2 weeks ago. I got the water in the tank tested and it was perfect. I have one Red Cap Oranda (wotsit), and a fan tail goldfish (Gilbert). They were fine for about a week but now Gilbert hardly swims anymore, and I haven't seen him eat for days. He just sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't move, he only swims if Wotsit chases him. Can anyone explain whats wrong with him and what I can maybe do about it? Thank you.
I'd give the water a test again and see what your ammonia and nitrites are
It doesn't take long for 2 goldfish to put out enough ammonia to make them sick
Having no idea what kind of a set up you have as far as tank size and filtration it's hard to advise, but you can start with a partial water change (about 20-25%) and see if that perks Gilbert up a little. If it does I would do another tomorrow.
Did you put the tank through a nitrogen cycle before you got Gilbert and wotsit? If not you can do small water changes daily to try and keep ammonia and nitrites under control until it cycles completely. If the tank wasn't cycled the signs you ' re seeing in him are typical

If you're using tap for water changes are you using a water conditioner as well?
For now I'd start with a water change and using a conditioner to make the water safe if you aren't already doing so.
Good luck, I hope Gilbert perks up soon
May be your fish is sick. That happens alot of time. My dollar fish was ill, but I used some medicines & now he is fine. Its been over 6months now, he is healthy & growing.
But i think, your fish's condition is critical. You need to use some medications. Atleast try them or you might later think, you wish you had done something.:/
Not trying to scare you, just want you to try it.
Good luck.
Well I definitely wouldn't consider a fish to be "sad", maybe he just figures there's nowhere to go, since he's probably explored every nook and cranny in your tank, so he just sits around all day .
I'm afraid he might be dying.: (
That's what my fish started doing before he died.
I hope that's not the case though with your fish.
