What is wrong with my guppies?

A few in the tank have had white stick looking things coming out of their sides. They are in a tank with nothing sharp. There are 7 male guppies in a 15 gallon tank together, nothing else. I take good care of them, do you know whats wrong and/or how I can cure it?
It could be anchor worms. They are a parasite. Its a little bug/shrimp that buries its head under the fishes scales. It is more comman in pond fish, But can get occur in the aquarium, I had a horrible case in my tropical tank a while back.

Its most likey ick a parasite that usually invects a aquarium when you get a new fish but anyway i wud raise the temp to 80 degrees slowly and replace 25% of the water dailey and but 1 and a half tablespoons of salt ever 2 days in it shud clear up in about 2 weeks
You say there are white things on your fish? That might be ick (Ich). It's easy enough to get rid of but it can be spread from fish to fish. Here's a website with some tips on how to get rid of Ich on your fish: pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

How many "sticks" are there on each fish? Alot? Or just a couple?
sounds like ICK, does it look like white dots all over the fish?
