I was just wondering, like, are all of them safe? I was gonna buy some at Big Als but then the thought crossed my mind that they may be harmful so I decided to wait and do some research. I know things like swords, and java ferns, java moss, and anubias nana are common betta plants, but Big Als didn't have any! I think I'll check out some other pet stores though. One plant from Big Als I really liked was Alternanthera Reineckii, a nice orangey plant. Then I really want to get some floating Najas Grass, a bit of Java Moss, Java Fern, Pennywort (is it safe?), and if I can find it, Ruffled sword. Is four rooted plants, one floating, and one bottom plant too much? and are they all safe? By the way what CANADIAN pet stores can I find live plants at? (not petco)
you would have to buy plants based on the lighting your tank has ... most plants are that are dark green are fine for lower light, plants that are coloured usually require higher lighting ... if you have a standard canopy with no lightbulb upgrades, chances are you have a low light tank ...

Alternanthera Reineckii - medium to high light
Najas Grass - low lighting
Pennywort - low to bright
Java anything will grow anywhere: O)
Ruffled sword is just a variant of the amazon sword so low light is fine ...
every single one of the plants you have mentioned are perfectly safe and fine for your betta tank ... the only plant i am now avoiding in my betta tanks is anubias because they shoot out quite hard roots which tore my bettas fins one time so i removed it from the tank ... the smaller anubias might be okay but watch for hard roots growing out of it ...
i do not use any chain pet stores in canada, i more stick to local fish stores to buy plants ... i too went to big als for plants and they were sold out ... they told me when their shipment was coming in but i ended up shopping somewhere else ... if you wanted to order online, aquaflora nurseries (
http://store.aquafloranurseries. com/) is a great place, canadian owned and operated ... they guy who owns it is very helpful and if you shoot him an email he will give good direction on suitable plants (and if it says it is out of stock, check with him because they usually are in stock) ... his nursery only grows aquarium plants and his plants stock many of the local fish stores where i live in vancouver ... be sure to get a fertilizer too, either a liquid or a solid for the substrate ... and what you have listed is not too much, it sounds just right ... a nice variety for your betta, the water will be better, and the tank will look more natural ... happy aquascaping: O)
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com bonus plant light bulbs just means healthier plants ... you can still have low light plants with higher lighting, they will do fine, but with plant lightbulbs your choice in plants is greater ... like any of the plants that have colours that are not green will do well with brighter light: O)
