Help setting up a quarantine tank? Is this ok?

I have a 60G tank that has cardinal tetras in it. Fing ich broke out in my tank for no reason what so ever, i really don't know how it broke out, maybe i introduced it with wet hands or something idk, but that ; s besides the point.

anyway, i have a 10G tank that is not set up, i just set it up tday and i put some of the old filter media with no carbon (from my 60G tank) in the 10G tank that is set up woth tank water. I also have about 1 cup of bio media in my tank at all times in case of emergencies (my tank does not need it because its been set up for 6 months and is FULLY cycled. I took out the bio media and put 60Gs worth in my 10G tank. should that speed up the cycle so i can put the few cardinals that are sick in there?

will it be a big problem that i took out the bio media from the main tank and have it in the Q tank? will that cause an ammonia spike in my main tank? i doubt it will because all i took out was the media, a peice of nasty filter media (the stuff that has the carbon in it but i cut out the carbon) pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

frankly, im asking how long until i can safely add the cardinals to the tank without killing them due to ammonia spikes?

did i add enough bacteria to the q tank from my old tank? (1 cup of 5 month old bio media and a month old cartrage without carbon) and 6G of tank water with 4Gs of tap water.

i know how to take care of ich, but i'm unsure about Q tanks. i don't need any advice on the ich, because I can do that:) but i have NOOOOO clue on what to do Q tank wise. did i do everything correctly?

will the Q tank have enough bacteria to handle roughly 5-10 max (1'') cardinals? (i only think 4-6 have ich but just in case any others do)

is there anyway i can prevent ammonia spikes because it's useless to set up the tank to safe them when i'm inevitably going to kill them wih ammonia: (that would be sad and a waste of time.

any tips will help and sorry if i sounds bossy or mean i'm just a little annoyed due to the darn protazoan parasite that's leaching off my poor fish. thank you so much and once again, sorry if a sound snippy, thank you!! !!!!!!!!

btw, try to give me as much info as possible, it's hard to use 1-2 lines of info, thank you and sorry again if i sound like a jerk.

TY:)
i have set up tanks with old filter media and old gravel beds and put fish in the next day and it has been fine ever since (i have done 2 tanks this way) so you should be ok. I doubt you'll have an ammonia spike in either of your tanks, but monitor it closely just in case.
If you have ICH in the tank you need to treat the whole tank so you need to be treating all of the fish in the 60 gallon tank

Ich is a parasite and if one of your fish has it, then they all have the potential to have it.
Lol u did write alot, but i can tell you ur problem. Your filtration wasnt good enough so the ICK grabbed the stressed fish and attacked them. The parasites are in the tank, but cant do anything to healthy happy fish, and there isnt much of them .. they grow when they get a fish sick .. they latch on and drop off and make more and more infecting all fish, there are ways to get rid of it like 80 Degree 'water temp, medicaiton and 25% water changes.

You need a Biological filter, for the Benificial germs to build up to get rid of Ammonia, if they dont they try to live in the gravel which u should clean from time to time so you could really use the filter.

If you go to Ebay you can find Canister Filters for $ 55. They have 3 stages, Carbon, Biological (rocks with holes in them), and put something for the 3rd, I use something to get ride of Nitrate/Nitrites/Phosphates.

I dont know if your tank is Cycled yet, but really its hard to Cycle it without a Great filter. I have a Canister 265 Gallons per hr with another 200gph filter for fine materials in the water, and the canister does the 3 stages.

The Bigger the tank you have, the less you have2 worry about spikes.

You can get a 30 gallon tank from petco for 30 bucks or so ... that would help out, and tranfer all your water to the new tank, and use water conditioner with the new water, and upgrade your filter. This will prevent spikes AFTER your tank is done Cycling, and never have ammonia, and 15% water changes weekly helps: D
For the Q tank, add the bacteria and test it every day to every other day, and do a small water change when there is ammonia. it's pretty simple, and shouldn't be a problem. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

But for ick you should treat the whole tank, as the parasites will still be in the aquarium, even if you don't see them. It will deff save the hassle of the whole Q tank and will treat your fish just the same, or better. The medication will kill all the parasites, including the ones hidden in the gravel where they will spring up again and infect your fish.

Good Luck!
There is no need to se up a Q tank. You should treat the entire tank. The fish that do not have it, are susceptible to it. Ich is present in all tanks. The fish are able to stay healthy as long as they are not stressed and the water quality is good. Once something happens to the water or the fish become stressed, Ich attacks. Ich is one of the easiest things to get rid of. Turn the Temp up to 85 degrees, add 1 Tablespoon of aquarium salt for every 5 gallons of water and turn off the lights. Ich needs light and cooler temperatures to thrive. Do regular water changes. You should be ich free in 10-14 days. Good luck
