Filter too strong for my betta fish?

Its too strong! The filter waterfall is really strong and pushing my betta!

How can I stop the waterfall from being supa powerful?

This filter: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js ...

Can I use a sponge? Like a normal sponge?

Any other suggestions? Aquarium safe.
Have you tried filling the water up just to the lip of where the water drains out??? I find the higher the water to where it comes out, the less current ... i have two of those filters in two small tanks and i try to keep the water right at the level where it pours out ... you could even get a smaller air pump which would make the current less ... i am pretty sure one of my tanks, the filter is too strong but it is built into the canopy so i am not sure how to fix that ...
i look forward to the tutorial ... in my eclipse 6 gallon, where joey is, when there is evaporation i do notice the falling water seems strong ... when it is filled right up it is fine but we all know, evaporation happens: O)

Yeah I am dealing with a very powerful filter myself. I bought like 4 guppies and the filter was so strong it sucked in their fins and they drowned. I used some plastic "fencing" kinda. Its udes for gtters but I cut it and made a barrier on the filter. Don't use a hose hold sponge. When they come out of a factory they have chemicals on them that can cause your fish to die.

Or go to the pet store and ask for a good filter yer not so strong to possibly Inger your fish.
A lot of sponges you buy have chemicals in them, look you one that smells free of chemicals and it will be fine, or maybe you could tie some kind of fabric around the part were the water spills out. or tie/anchor a piece of Styrofoam, plastic, or aquarium decoration under it. but dont but anything to close to the intake part of the filter that it would block that end.
My suggestion is to put plants in your tank. Just let them float. It'll provide oxygen, a snack, places to hide, and it'll also provide an area where the water is calmer.
