Can guppies survive on goldfish flakes?

I have a common goldfish that's almost 8 years old. Two weeks ago we moved him into a 5 gallon tank, he lived for 7 years in a 2 gallon just fine .. My mom was thinking about getting a guppy "friend" for him . He's about 3 1/2 inches long and won't eat the guppies.

I know about the temperature and all that, but I don't know about the food. Right now I am feeding my gold fish TetraFin Goldfish flakes, the ingredients are:

Fish meal, ground brown rice, torula dried yeast, feeding oat meal, shrimp meal, wheat gluten, soybean oil, fish oil, algae meal, sorbitol, lecithin, l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (vitamin C). Artificial colors including yellow 5, red 3, and blue 2. Ethoxyquin as a preservative.

(I got the ingredients off of Petco's website: http://www. petco.com/product/2940/TetraF ...

Thank you!
Well, it's not a nutritious for your guppy, but I suppose he could eat them. Although I see a problem with the whole guppy/goldfish thing. The goldfish is a cold water fish, meaning he can survive in room tempature water. The guppy is a tropical fish, meaning he needs warm water. If I can make a suggestion, why not think about another goldfish, or a comet, or a black moor?
sotrry but no guppies need tropical food because it has certain nutrients made for tropical fish gold fish on the other hand cant eat tropicalc food what you can do is get the two foods and mix them that way theyll get a little bit of everything
Yes, your guppies will survive just fine off of goldfish flakes. They have the same nutrients, just break the flakes up into smaller pieces for your guppy.
Yes crushed green flakes.
