I only have 1 air pump at the moment and I want to use this air pump with a sponge filter but I would have to disconnect it from my air stone. Would the sponge filter aerate my water like the air stone? Or is it just filtration ? x:
It will do both.If you wont to have both the air stone and sponge filter all you need is more air line a T connection and a control valve to control how much air goes to each.
Yes , that will be fine.
All the airstone does is create some bubbles that move the water around the tank more, and that helps keep the oxygen level up. By plugging the pump into a sponge filter, you still get the bubbles, AND some good biological filtration - 2 jobs at the same time. So a sponge filter is much more use than a plain old airstone.

you need to get a gang valve, that way the pump could operate both the spong filter and airstone.
